Hey mensen.
Vandaag werd het eerste beetje
aangekondigd over de chip van de PS3. Nu
http://www.gamespot.com/news/2004/11/29/news_6114033.html
En dan heb ik het over dit stukje:
"We have a supercomputer on a chip," IBM
designer Jim Kahle told the San Jose
Mercury News. "This will be
significantly faster than previous types
of game systems and should provide new
effects." Sony Computer Entertainment
CTO Masayuki Chatani, was less modest,
saying, "The Cell processor-based
workstation will totally change the
digital content creation environment."
Deze chip gaat ook in normale PC's
komen. En zoals er dus is aangekondigd,
is het een supercomputer op een chip. En
het veranderd de digitale code zoals wij
die nu kennen totaal.
Dit viel mij dus heel erg op. Nu denk ik
misschien een beetje ver, maar wilde het
hier toch even kwijt.

Cell chip-rack van IBM-Sony-Toshiba is
in my view certainly not the
implentation of the technology of Sloot.
It is merely an enrichment of the
stronger capabilities of 64 bit
processing for floating point
accumulation of dataprocessing. It is
just puting more balls in the pack, for
optimilizing the use of 64 bit
technology.
The technology of Sloot must have
something to do with recalculation of
the usual input content, in a new
content input standard, requiring rather
less chip-power to do more. In this
regard my expectations are not too
optimistic, because what it can do more
is beyond the ordinary everyday use for
most applications, so excessive throwing
money out for waisted power. It may be
helpful for video editing and recording
with which Sony is well known to be a
key player, and that might be the aim,
especially for the multimedia industry.
Companies that will be benefiting of
this advance will primarily be
Microsoft, and chip makers.
Yet, it is by no means really
revolutionary.
Further, I refer back to my article
elsewhere on this weblog. The revolution
by Sloot's technology has to wait some
longer, because this recent development
will lessen a bit the cry for bigger
handling capacity provided by the Sloot'
system. |

Mvg, Ralph
